5 Lessons from a Fridge… 2008-06-03 22:03:07 Let me tell you the experience my friend and I had buying a fridge in Brazil - it is little stories like this that really begin to tell you something about how a country operates.
Lesson 1: There is no such thing as frozen price
This goes for everything in Brazil including the boys.
We discovered after many years of service that the fridge had finally packed up and we set out to the centro to purchase a new one. We shopped around and were convinced that a well known large electrical chain in Brazil had the best prices.
We settled on a local brand which had a large capacity to accommodate all the packs of beers, meats and juices to keep the boys happy. Then began an extraordinary negotiation with the salesman and manager…
My friend was demanding a desconto, there were lots of phonecalls and pacing around. It took an incredible 2 hours of hard negotiation to finally hit on a price. It was a good 2 hours work because we managed to get a third off the marked price (so well worth the
A Brit in Brazil… 2008-06-02 22:03:48 My first impression of Brazil was….. God it’s hot!
Whilst I have never been a sun worshipper, I had begun to hate the cold of European winters.
One of the things I immediately found in Brazil is that just about no-one speaks English….virtually…. No-one!
It is a rare thing indeed to come across an English speaker and when you do, they are usually keen to practice their English. They also appreciate your efforts to speak their language, (Brazilian Portuguese), encouraging you whenever possible.
They really are eager to please. I’ve known other countries where the people were generally ignorant. Not an accusation that could ever be levelled at the Brazilians.
They do seem to enjoy their carnivals and parties…. It seems that any excuse is seized here to throw a party. I mentioned before how my Brazilian friend was throwing a party to celebrate the arrival of his new fridge!
Friendly and good-natured, it’s surprising really when you consider what some of them have to end
Sao Paulo Gay Pride 2008 2008-06-01 22:03:28
On Sunday 25th May my friend and I left our idyllic beach-boy house and travelled to central Sao Paulo where the gay pride was taking place.
We took the metro from the outskirts of the city where my friend has a city apartment and disembarked close to Paulista Avenue where the parade took place.
The atmosphere on the train was electric.
Costumes of all shapes and colours and a tremendous party atmosphere. The atmosphere on the train didn’t prepare me for what I encountered at ground level.
The amount of people squeezed into Paulista Avenue was mindblowing.
The Brazilians love to party and it seemed the whole of Sao Paulo had turned up. The colours and vibrancy of the crowd was inspiring. The ‘parade’ took hours to crawl through the avenue and included large buses with blasting music and colourful floats. Here are some snaps .
Cans of Skol where being sold at every corner for 2.5 rials (a mark up of about 1.5 rials compared to
10 Years to find Paradise… 2008-05-31 22:03:38
Well, I am finally writing to you direct from the BrazilBoysonline.Com house and I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am about it.. Let me tell you how it all came about.
I have a very close Brazilian friend whom I have known for nearly 10 years. He’s about my age, is a gay man and is crazy about straight boys 18-21. I met him when he was on a trip to Europe in a gay bar, we got talking and he mentioned how disappointed he was with the European boys and tried to convince me that the Brazilian boys were far sexier, cuter and more up for it.
He told me stories that night of some of the boys that he had been with in his travels across Brazil and how straight Brazilian boys were very easy about having sex with other guys - very often for little or no money. I said to him that I did not doubt such a thing but that there was one problem.. That I was into twinky, cute, smooth fit lads and not hairy, rugged, Brazilian muscle types. He almost fell off the bar stool and stared at me inc
