Ally's busy day
2008-10-19 21:30:00
Sorry, y'all, but I don't have a blog for today. Well, I suppose one could argue that this is, in fact, a blog post. But, it's not a very good one. So I apologize for that. The thing is, my daughter had to head back to college from Fall Break today. She and her best friend had a ride lined up, but it fell through at the last minute. Last minute, as in we didn't know she didn't have a ride until we showed up at said ride's house and her father told us. Oy >_< So, I drove the girl-child and her friend four hours back to school. We went to dinner, went to the store so they could stock up on the necessaries, then I drove four hours back home. Just got back like half an hour ago and my brain is mush. Thus this poor excuse for a blog post. LOL.Maybe y'all can help me turn it into something useful. Anyone see any story ideas in this fiasco? College boy in need of an emergency ride meets.... a hot guy of some description. Whatcha think? Hm? Anyone? C'mon, y'all are smart, let's hear y

A little pre-Halloween Treat

SpreeA Cheating Chance Humor ShortByJames Buchanan(c)2007Brandon pushed a bright red shopping cart though the isle, chasing after Nicky. He had to slalom between snot nosed kids running around unattended and moms talking on cell phones. It felt a lot like driving the 91 at rush hour. “What are we doing here again?” He called at Nicky’s back. Where the fuck was he headed? Dish soap, laundry soap, hair gel, and toilet paper: yep the mental shopping list pretty much matched the contents of the cart. In Brandon’s mind that equated to done and ready for the check-out counter.“Shopping.” Nicky didn’t even turn around. No shit shopping. “Shopping for what?”Turning and walking backward, Nicky threw his hands up. “Well,” he piled on enough enunciation for three people onto that one tiny word. Brandon cringed. If Nicky went any more flaming on him in the store, Brandon was going to resort to justifiable homicide. “You keep complaining that you have nothing stylish in you

Want To Meet My Sidekick?
2008-10-15 15:16:00
YAY! It’s my new cover! That’s Joey in the front and Aaron in the back. I’m very excited about Collision Course, my December 9 release from Samhain. My heroes did an amazing job telling me the story, my editor did an amazing job making sure there were no plot holes, and then Anne made this amazing cover. And me? I got to hear sexy bedtime stories from two hot guys for a couple of months. When I needed a friend for Noah to talk to in Diving In Deep, I never planned on giving Joey a book. Back in February, Joey started whining (loudly and incessantly) in my head about wanting his own hero. I pointed out that I’d already given him a new boyfriend after he and Noah broke up, but he complained that Mark was too much of a marshmallow. So I thought up the most difficult hero I could for him. Joey and Aaron took it from there. To get to the point of my blog (beyond shameless self-promotion) Noah and Cameron, the heroes in Diving In Deep, make a couple of appearances in Collision Course

Inspiration, Chocolate, and Music
2008-10-14 11:05:00
Tory Temple's blog on Sunday reminded me that I, too, have taken inspiration from Paula Deen and her guest stars. She's had a particular pastry chef on Paula's Party at least twice now. He's undoubtedly the sexiest pastry chef in the US, possibly the world, and damn but he knows how to flirt. Rowr! His name is Johnny Iuzzini and when I was creating one of my heroes it didn't take much to realize who I was describing. I even gave the character a couple of tattoos before I ever knew Johnny had any.Oh, and I mentioned he was a pastry chef, right? On this episode, he made Chocolate Pudding with Candy Roses. ::sigh::And on a completely different note, I leave you with this hilarious and completely un-PC video link. I Love the Gays

Help homeless youth
2008-10-13 12:39:00
As I was gathering information for Marketing For Romance Writer's Discovery Bulletin (a promoting/networking newsleter for the group), we were sent information on how a publisher was taking October to help some homeless youth. And since it helps a GLBT shelter, then I thought it fit well on this blog.Dreamspinner Press Needs YOU to help homeless youth!Did you know that it's estimated that a third of homeless youth identify themselves as GLBT??? In New York City , this means that something like 8,000 to 10,000 youth are without shelter each night. Visit the website for Queer Streets, a soul-stirring documentary about this situation, for more info. During the month of October, 5% of all Dreamspinner Press' profits will be donated to Sylvia's Place, which helps out teens in NYC. Visit Dreamspinner Press today and take a look at our M/M titles. Whether you're in a mood for a long novel to a short story, find out why we are the place where dreams come true. Check out our newest rele

Boys in the Kitchen
2008-10-12 08:55:00
I was watching Paula Deen last night on Food Network and salivating over the stuffed filet mignon she was making. But she wasn't making it alone, oh no she wasn't. She had Jason Priestly there with her, and this was after she'd already made a raspberry-sherry trifle with Carson Kressley. That Paula, she loves to cook with men.Of course, that got me thinking how absolutely delicious (pun intended) it would be to watch two beautiful boys working together in the kitchen. Men doing anything together is usually slash-worthy, at least for me, but to watch them cook would be amazing. Assuming they weren't cooking for guests, there would be licking of fingers and offerings of tastes right from the pot. They would trail a hand over the other's back as they moved back and forth from stove to counter to sink. If sharp knives were involved, one would always watch protectively as the other one chopped or diced. There might be a little making out against the table while they waited for the oven

Sneak Preview: Excitable Gals by Leigh Ellwood
2008-10-11 18:36:00
Excitable Gals, my omnibus novella from Loose-ID, bows November 25, just in time for your Turkey Day manlovin' madness. Don't let the title fool you, there is some good manlove and menage there for your enjoyment. I'm working on final edits and the cover now, but in the meantime here's a juicy bit to savor:"Leading Lady" from Excitable Gals by Leigh Ellwood"This won't work."Kray looked up from the row of winking candles arranged on the bureau. The overhead lights were dimmed, soft music wafted from the small bedside radio, and room service champagne chilled in a bucket stand by the bed. A scene for seduction was set as best as the two could arrange it.Everything seemed workable to Kray, save for the combination of burning vanilla and lavender that stung his nostrils. He had forgotten how noxious the scents were to him, yet this was what Dina Joseph liked, according to the information they had on her. For this to work, everything had to go as planned, and that meant for Kray to con

Weekend Recs
2008-10-10 10:56:00
Hellooooo, weekend! I hope everyone has some nice plans for the next couple of days, which might mean running around town to start looking at Halloween costumes for the kiddies. But don't forget to make some time for R&R, and hopefully that means enjoying a couple of good reads. :DFor yaoi (and yuri!) fans, Silapa Jarun is releasing a free newsletter on the 10th of each month with author interviews, book recs, and all that good stuff: http://1happyturtle.com/YAY/newsletter1.pdf "No Going Home" is one of my fave TA Chase books, and the print edition I ordered from Amazon got here yesterday. I seriously need some time to unwind this weekend, and I can't wait to curl up with the novel and a mug of hot tea to do just that.Does anyone have any good books they'd also like to recommend? :D

Table for two
2008-10-07 13:26:00
I can't get into threesomes. (Er, fiction-wise, that is. We'll leave my personal life out of it.)Threesomes that are purely sexual, sure! But books where the OTP is an OT3 are just not for me, I've found. Of course, to each their own -- I cast no aspersions on anyone else's preferences.I recently tried to read a book about three men who fall in love with each other, but I found myself hopelessly shipping two of them and wishing the third would bugger off already. I'm also a stickler for happy ever after, so perhaps I'm just hopelessly old fashioned. What are your thoughts? Are three better than two?

He’s had a hard-on for his uncle’s friend, Dante ever since he realized what his dick was good for. He’s so enamored of the older man that he doesn’t think twice when Dante starts referring to him as pretty boy, instead of by his given name.He knows Dante wants his body, but is there any chance the older man might want more than an orgasm? There’s only one way to find out, and Cody plans to make it a night neither of them will ever forget.

2008-10-05 19:15:00
Hmmm... Weekend Smut Bunnies
2008-10-01 20:03:00
Wow, I've actually prepared a post in advance. Go me. And this one is not complete randomness...but randomness with pictures. So this past weekend I spent up in the bay area. Met a bunch of awsome people, had a lot of fun. First off, YaoiCon. This is the convention for Yaoi and M/M romance does well there. Sold lots of books. Saw lots of guys … well, see for yourself. It's fun and insane. We did a panel on where to find M/M romance that readers of Yaoi would enjoy. I bought naughty art by a guy named Brian C. Mitchell (http://www.roughcanvas.com/) the human torch with a flaming cock…yah baby. "Heat Wave" and "Hard as Adamantium" you can find them under Artwork in the fan gallery.Bishi auctions and dances and more cosplay than you can shake a stick at. Really, it's a fun con and run well. I managed to not over buy. Then Sunday, we took off for Folsom Street Fair. Want to know what to do for a kick. Head to an erotic leather even with 4 erotic authors and the poor reviewer we hijac

And One More Thing About Fall
2008-09-30 23:52:00
“Maybe he could work around it. Maybe it was just deep-seated admiration. He was one hell of a ballplayer. Did all the little things right. Nobody in baseball made the pivot better on a double play. Whatever the case, there seemed to be only one explanation for what was going on. Randy was falling in love. And it wasn’t with his wife or with some bimbo he’d picked up on the road. It was with his second baseman." Peter LefcourtBaseball playoffs start today, which means that it’s time for my annual rereading of one of my favorite books, The Dreyfus Affair by Peter Lefcourt. It’s apparently out of print, but here’s a link. It’s a love story. A love story between two men, and a love story about baseball. The fondness the author has for both parts of his story is what makes it work so well for me. Every baseball fan I’ve encouraged (okay, make that “forced by incessant urging”) to read it has loved it. If you’re trying to convert someone to our beloved genre and that pe

Ah, Autumn!
2008-09-30 11:15:00
Despite the last gasp of an Indian Summer day yesterday, fall is definitely in the air here. It's my favourite season (besides baseball season ;) ) and I'm thrilled to bits that it has finally arrived. While others may sigh sadly over the passing of warm summer days filled with shirtless young men, I say, bring on the pullovers, cardigans, and fisherman knits. I love a guy who's bundled up in a scarf and a knit cap and a big, wooly sweater. I'm a sucker for cozy.Take this snugglable Gap ad, for example. Dorky and undeniably adorable, IMO.And who can deny that Jamie Bell is simply puthiminyourpocketandtakehimhome cute in this photo? So yeah I agree that hot naked boys are all sorts of yummy, but let's enjoy these bundled up honeys, too.

Drool-worthy pictures
2008-09-29 22:16:00
Wow, it's already that time again. It's amazing how fast two weeks go by when edits and other things are keeping one busy. :)Since I'm still trying to get my edits for one of my two holiday M/M books completed, I thought I'd just drop off a couple of favorite pictures I have laying around. Have a wonderful week!

You've only got a few more days to check out Torquere Press's Road to Relationships advent calendar! Snippets, recipes, images, coupons and more. My day was September 15 and I posted an absolutely amazing recipe for Engagement Chicken. The best part about the calendar is that it offers you a daily clue for the Torquere Author Scavenger Hunt. You can win an Amazon Kindle e-reader, all loaded up with books from Torquere! September's almost done and then this offer will be too, so go and check it out while you still can.And because we're having a political frenzy here in the States, I'll leave you with a little something to remind all Americans to vote on November 4th. We need change, my friends. You can make it happen.

Is M/M Becoming Predictable?
2008-09-26 11:43:00
I was cruising through the various blogs and forums that are a daily stop for me in thw mornings when Mrs. Giggles caught my eye in her intro to a self-pubbed book someone recommended she read. This isn't the first time she's said something similar to this and it got me to wondering what the rest of your out there in m/m land think of this comment:Perhaps this reflects more on me than on this book, but the story makes me realize that maybe it's time I take a short break from gay romances. The whole "pretty boys with lots of angst" formula is wearing thin on me.I have not read the particular book that this remark inspired but I wonder if she's referring to what I end to call the "OMG I'm not gay" plot point. I've seen it a lot and it always tends to bug me when that becomes a main point of conflict. I'm sure it's a very real issue gays and lesbians face when discovering who they are inside and what they want in a partner but should fiction follow to the tune that it becomes pr

Great moments in advertising
2008-09-24 18:42:00
This is tangentially related to J.M. Snyder's great post yesterday on marketing tips for authors, since it concerns advertising. I was linked to this terrific British ad today, which covers 122 years of British history in two minutes. Really clever and well done, so I thought I'd share. The background:Long before Alien (and longer still before his still-famous “Big Brother” Apple ad), Ridley Scott made a rather modest television commercial for Britain’s Hovis bread. Filmed in 1973, the spot — which shows a Hovis delivery boy wheeling down a quaintly cobblestoned street in Dorset — may just be England’s favorite advertisement, ever. So this year, when Hovis decided to celebrate its 122nd anniversary in style, the company found itself in the difficult position of having to trump its own, legendary campaign. We say they’ve succeeded — and then some.

Free reads at Associated Content

Some of you may know I began my writing career in self-publishing; this has helped me think "outside the box" when it comes to marketing, as no one was pimping my books by myself. Now that I've worked with several different publishers, I've found that I still do most of my own promotion ... which is fine by me, as no one knows my stories as well as I do myself.I've begun writing a series of articles which I hope will help other authors in marketing and promotion, as it seems to be an area most of us would rather ignore. Some of these tips are probably things you already know, but there may be some you haven't thought of, and a few that will hopefully work well for you. The links below open in a new window, where the articles can be read for free at Associated Content:Cheap and Easy Online Marketing TipsThirteen Cheap Promo Items for AuthorsTwelve Things You Can Do with Promotional BookmarksIn addition to these articles, I've posted two gay romance stories at Associated Content, a

So many topics, so little time...

I have so much to share with you all that you would not believe it. The last two weeks have been insane with good news and adventures for me. :) Vincent Diamond and I hosted a booth at Pride in the Park yesterday, and it was a blast. We met so many nice people that it'd be impossible to list them all. Here's a picture of our booth. That's my husband looking bored in the background. :)I have a brand new cover for my October release with Loose Id to share that I think is smoking hot.And last, but certainly not least, I have two new contracts to brag about. The sequel to Secrets & Lies, The Hard Truth, has been accepted at Loose Id. Another M/M novella, Furtive Liason, has been accepted for publication, at Amber Quill.Whew, I told you I had a ton of stuff to share. I think that's it, but I may be forgetting something. Tune in to my blog for pics of Pride in the Park. Next week I hope to have some more photos to share from PrideFest in North Carolina.

Why Ally Loves College
2008-09-21 18:31:00
Lots of reasons, not least of which is that I no longer have to go to class. All I have to do is visit my eldest offspring there and enjoy the place without having the related stress. LOL.So what else is so fab about college? Lots. I love strolling around campus. I love the crowd noise you can hear from the football stadium from halfway across campus. I love shopping in the nearby town. I love the cemetery with all the graves from the 1700s and 1800s. I love the whole atmosphere of youth, excitement and learning. But the best thing about college? Plot bunnies. Sooooo many attractive young men, looking all smart and thoughtful. Ally loves to pair them up in her head O_OI have notes from this weekend's visit, oh yes *g*

Since my brain is mush
2008-09-18 21:29:00
I'm going to leave you with a thought on romance today."Bad guys always lose, because they have no friends."This was Princess' opinion upon seeing Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade for the first time. She's 7. I think there's something profound there. It's romance...we know the hero has to come out on top (get kicked around a bit on his way to the top...but he wins). And throughout it all people come to his aid...because, he has friends. That's my philosophy on heroes in general, I think. I'm off to go ponder it further, maybe with a hot shower and a glass of Absinth.

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year
2008-09-16 23:04:00
I know it sounds strange for a person whose day job is that of a teacher to say, but I love the fall. Yes, the leaves are pretty and the weather is cooler and the air smells great, but what really kicks my happy dance into high gear is the idea of new beginnings. There’s nothing like the back-to-school magic. You get a fresh start. New students, new teachers, new clothes and new supplies. How I love that other adult toy store—Office Max. The pens, the paper, the highlighters and all those really cool other things that I’m sure I’ll find a use for someday spill off the shelves and into my basket. Just like the fall season itself, the possibilities of the back-to-school sale at an office supply store are endless. And best of all, I have a new story. Since the characters are newborns (just birthed five days ago but already two chapters strong), they're a bit shy about coming out and playing on the blog, but they’re whispering all kinds of things in my ear. Sometimes they even ge

Good evening...
2008-09-15 19:27:00
I know I've been quiet lately. But I've got a good excuse. I've been writing and have two holiday themed stories contracted. :-)The first is titled A Gift Worth Sharing coming Dec. 2nd at Loose-Id. Nate and Kyle from A Master's Love are back and sharing a long weekend together just before Christmas. Nate has a special planned for Kyle, only things don't go quite has planned. Will memories from Kyle's past and the hesitation of stepping into the role of a Dominant ruin their weekend? This book contains M/M/M, BDSM, and voyeurism. The second is titled No Ordinary Holiday coming Dec. 8th at Phaze. This is the third of an unplanned trilogy of related stories that started with At The Edge and last years Christmas story, enWrappture. It centers on Devyn Rhodes, who readers meets in enWrappture. As a descendent of Kris Kringle (aka Santa Claus), Devyn has been bestowed a gift to see people's past and future. It prevents her from having initmate relations with men. Only her late husband a

Coming Attractions
2008-09-13 07:28:00
Normally I'd take this time to promote my new release this weekend, Daringly Delicious from Phaze Books, but as it is not M/M I will save it for my other channels. Of course, this chapter of Dareville will be entwined somewhat with the upcoming Daring Red, which is all M/M, so please do keep it in the back in your mind when you're shopping next. :)Until that release comes, there are a number of books releases I'm looking forward to in the next few months. Hope you are, too.

Oooh...Gymnastikos!
2008-09-12 13:00:00
It's been nearly three weeks since the 2008 Summer games came to a close, and I've been missing all the action and excitement, not to mention all the sexy athletes. (Oh, the naughty things I pictured the men's swimming and gymnastics teams doing together.) Anyway...*cough* I started poking around online and I found THIS: Gymnastikos: Power and Grace -- a dvd where the super-cute European gymnasts perform their routines in the nude. Wow.Before everyone starts calling me a perv for snatching up this dvd, I have to say that it's a very artistic, tastefully made film. Plus, not all of the routines are performed in the buff. But when they are, it's amazing to see the kind of tension and flexing that's happening with a gymnast's muscles during a routine. From an artist's perspective, that was a really cool. But I'll admit it--there's a lot of camp throughout the film and I think the director tried a little too hard to make this an artsy project. Some routines can't fully be appreci

Help Ally find a man!!!
2008-09-07 16:18:00
Not like that. I am blissfully happy with my loverly hubby :D No, I am looking for pics of a particular guy, so's he can be my website monthly hottie. And possibly my desktop for a while. And, erm, maybe star in a Tome O' Ghey Buttsecks one day, who knows...**daydreams**Ahem. So, anyway. The guy I am looking for is an actor named Jesse Haddock. I saw him on the Masters of Horror DVD my hubby and I were watching last night. The episode was called "The Fair Haired Child". The story was, to be blunt, absolute dreck. Oh my God. Awful. Young Master Haddock, however? Decent actor. And pretty. Very, very, VERY pretty. Ally was smitten. Thank FSM he's 21...This is the only picture I can find of him, and it does NOT do him justice by a long shot (which makes me think he should get a new agent maybe). I need another one! Preferably a really BIG one. Help a pervy old lady out, won't you?Don't make me get on my knees and beg. My knees creak and it is NOT attractive O_O
