Man-on-Man Muse 2008-05-17 21:48:00 Two out of my last three releases have been M/M novels. I didn't plan it that way. I simply wrote the stories that my muse demanded that I write. The muse is a fickle thing. If she doesn't get her way or get fed on a regular basis, she gets all bitchy and refuses to talk to me. I guess I could think of her like my boyfriend's haughty half-Himalayan/half-farm cat kitties (always referred to as "the girls.") One took after the Persian half of the Himalayan breed, the other took after the Siamese half, but both of them are spoiled princess. The Fancy Feast cat has nothing on these two. Of course, I treat my kitties like rag dolls. They're the fluffies I pick up and hug, or pet, or share my lap with. The girls think this behavior is scandalous! And both, having Siamese heritage, will be sure to tell you about it. They even have these "harumph!" looks they get that make you just want to break down in giggles, because really... they're cats. How high-and-mighty can they get? Quite a lot

You Wrote That Where? 2008-05-14 14:43:00 Actually, I write everywhere. I always have a notebook on me; I get twitchy if I’m too far away from a pen and paper. So when I said I wrote the blow-job scene for the Round Robin in line for Pirates of the Caribbean at Walt Disney World, I wasn’t kidding. And that wouldn’t be the only blow-job or sex scene I’ve written while hanging with The Mouse. I love Disney World. We go at least once a year, but at some point the santitized fun needs a little subverting. I can only listen to so many toddler tantrums while in line. Sometimes I even get disappointed if the lines are too short. What’s better than writing my favorite kind of story in my favorite place to be? Over the years, I figure I’ve done at least a novel’s worth of writing while weaving along the convoluted queues. This year I ran into an unexpected hazard and not just because my notebook was a magic charm to get the bus to come as soon as I set pen to paper. No, this was far more perilous. One gorgeous day, I sat o
And Tango Makes Three 2008-05-13 11:26:00 Before we started the round-robin, I was going to post about this beautiful children's book, And Tango Makes Three. I borrowed it from a friend and mean to get a copy for myself. It's a true story about a penguin family of two daddies and their chick, Tango. They live in the Central Park Zoo. Coincidentally, now that the round-robin is finished and we're back to regular posting, I received the following link from another friend. She titled the email "People are stupid." Truer words have rarely been spoken. Some idiot has revived the so-called controversy of this book: "Penguin tale tops list of 'challenged' books".I suggest that those who don't already have a copy conisder buying one. It's a sweet story and the artwork is lovely. Even if you don't want to keep it for yourself, I have no doubt that a public library would love to have the donation for their children's section. I think I'll buy two. :)
Coming soon... 2008-05-12 21:37:00 Counting down to my latest M/M book, Fallen Angels, from Loose-Id. Happy Mother's Day! 2008-05-11 08:00:00 So, it's Mother's Day. In a few short hours, I'll be with my immediate and extended family, having a very nice brunch.... I really hope there's champagne. A lot of it.I digress. I actually get along well with my family, and naturally this includes my mom. We get along so well, in fact, that about eight months ago I decided to come out of the M/M romance closet and tell her what I wrote in my spare time.It went about as you'd expect. *sigh* She's my mom and we love each other, but even the closest of mothers and daughters don't always see eye to eye. My mom has always been supportive of my desire to write, but somehow I don't think she'd envisioned me writing gay erotic romance. I've given her countless blog articles on the growing popularity of the genre, and her response is always the same: "Hmm. That is very interesting." I even went as far as to give her a paperback copy of Tabula Rasa (available now at Torquere Press yay go buy!!), which she dutifully read."You must have
Fun in the greenhouse (or why I want to watch) 2008-05-10 01:10:00 Over the last weekend I attended the Des Moines Science Fiction Society's (DMSFS) annual convention DemiCon. (http://www.demicon.org/). One of the panels I was on talked about the hot men of science fiction. And of course, you know Captain Jack and his young sidekick Ianto were among the topics of conversation. But the conversation went something like this.Other panelist to me: "Captain Jack, the character, may sleep with anything, but the actor John Barrowman is completely gay."Me: "So."Other panelist: *looks at me as if I've lost my mind.* "He's gay." (As if I, a M/M author has no clue what that means.)Me: "I can watch! I'll probably even take notes."Other panelist proceeds to look at me like I've grown a second head. And maybe that's why in one of the Torchwood episodes, when Gwen finds Jack and Ianto playing "hide and seek" in the greenhouse, I found it hilarious that they offer to have Gwen join them. (And why if I were Gwen, I would have said hell yeah in a heartbeat.)So what
Mmm...inspiration 2008-05-08 16:33:00 Here, have a cowboy. *grins* A dear friend sent this fine specimen to me because he knows I have a particular weakness for older cowboys. *happy sigh*Speaking of cowboys... Jack and Ty make their debut May 31st in the first of their Chaser series from Torquere Press - Breakdown 1: Nowhere to Run. A May/December romance with countrified cowboys. Can't ask for more than that, eh? ;)

Round Robin: The End 2008-05-05 15:00:00 Sam raced to the door and flung it wide. Ken fell inside, hitting the tile, just as Absolom landed on the threshold. Sam had no time to help Ken up, or ask why he was there, as the large, dark vampire loomed like a specter of death in the doorway. “I’ve come to offer you a trade. The life of your lover for the sword. You have exactly thirty seconds to choose which you’d like to sacrifice.”“Um, pardon me for saying so, but it seems as if I have the sword and Ken both, while you have neither. How is that a trade?”Absolom smirked. In the time it took Sam to blink, his menacing image blurred. One minute he was standing at the door and the next he was in the living room, with Ken trapped in his grip. One razor-sharp fingernail pressed against Ken’s throat, a tiny trickle of blood oozing from the small cut. “Now what do you have, my boy? And you’re down to fifteen seconds.”Sam stalled for time. “If you want the damn sword so bad, why don’t you just take it? You know w

Round Robin XX 2008-04-30 22:46:00 I'm not really good with the mystical stuff. I'm really here for the sex! Last part hereBut if Samuel was going to face off against Absalom, he needed more strength. Hidden by a five-pound bag of mini carrots, a fresh cold pack of blood rested on the bottom shelf of the fridge. And even more convenient than the blood storage at work, he had a microwave that in thirty-seven seconds would serve it body temperature. The microwave dinged, and he allowed his fangs to descend. Tearing into the bag, he emptied it in a couple of swallows. “Sam? Are you coming back to bed?”Samuel started. How long had he been standing naked in his kitchen, staring down at the empty blood bag in the trash? “Sam?” He pushed away from the wall, head as fuzzy as if the bag had been full of opium. Blake. Blake in bed waiting for him. Why did that seem wrong? Some dream of demons and monsters and Blake’s corpse, cold and still. Samuel shook his head to clear it, his lip catching on a fang. Why were they st
Round Robin XIX 2008-04-29 17:44:00 Taking a break from editing to post here. Again my round has snuck up on me. Where does the time go??Part XVIII is here.He turned as a stunned smile spread across his face. “Blake?” It was a trick. Samuel knew it was a trick, but oh how he wanted it to be real.Green eyes sparkled with sly delight. “Who else, baby?” Blake sat on the couch beside him, so close that his thigh pressed against Samuel’s, but no warmth, no pulse of life came with the touch. He reached out a hand and trailed cool, lifeless fingers along Samuel’s cheek.Samuel’s expression darkened. He wanted to pull away, forced himself to remain where he was. This was his ground, his home for fuck’s sake. He wasn’t going to let some game-playing, undead shape-shifter take command here. “Blake is dead,” he said with a chill that would have weakened any living soul. The faux-Blake didn’t flinch, but his hand ceased its caress. “You’re not even a good fake. Blake hates—” He caught h
Round Robin XVIII 2008-04-28 20:12:00 My M/M, Fallen Angels, for Loose-Id is looking to be released June 3rd. And I've been busy working on a M/M titled Kinks R Us for my other publisher. Busy, busy. Just the way I like it. :D Here's the next addition.Last part here.Samuel stared at the sword. He’s had it so long he rarely thought about it. In fact, it hung there practically ignored. But now it had his full attention. He reached up to take it down, then stopped, remembering Absolom’s words. He said that Samuel would relinquish the sword to him, however, if he knew where to find the sword, why hadn’t he just taken it himself? He withdrew his hands, fingers curling into fists. That’s exactly what Absolom wanted. For some reason, he can’t retrieve the sword himself, so he transported him here, where Samuel would take hold of the sword. Then what? Could Absolom take it from him? Could it be used to kill Absolom? So many questions and no answers. Yet.“Your plan won’t work,” Samuel said out lout. No answer. His
Romantic Times 2008-04-27 09:19:00 My bosses over at Torquere Press got back from Romantic Times a week ago. I've never been to the convention, although I do have tentative plans to attend next year (in Orlando, woo!). I've heard so many mixed things about RT and the way that M/M publishers are received that I wasn't even sure I wanted to hear the con report, especially after some of the things that happened last year. However! I was so, so, SO pleasantly surprised by the stories I was told about the authors, the readers, and the fans in general. My publisher presented topics on several panels and there was more than one successful booksigning. People were interested and polite. To quote directly from the report from the Torquere Press blog:Does this mean we're welcome everywhere with open arms? No. But it does mean that things are getting better, and that there's an awareness out there that didn't exist even a year ago about what we do. I think that we're doing the best thing we can, which is presenting our books
Whew! 2008-04-25 07:54:00 I don't think I've recovered yet from the madness that was the 2008 Romantic Times convention. I shudder to think of how tired I'd be if I'd had to add long distance travel into the mix.The thing that surprised me the most was the number of (for lack of a better word) prim-looking ladies who picked up the brochures I'd done to pimp our Dragon's Disciple world. I made it a point to let them know it was erotic urban fantasy featuring male/male pairings and while a couple went "Oh," and put the flyer back the majority simply nodded, tucked the promo into their bags and went on their way.*punches fist in air* Open-minded grandmotherly types unite!
Series and Research 2008-04-24 21:40:00 You know, you'd think an author wouldn't have to go back and read past books/stories just to remember small details. Well, guess again.I have finally made myself sit down and list those small details (eye color, tats--what and where, ages, full names--including middle names, etc) for my Hearth & Home guys. Granted, Robbie and Seth? Those are a given. But Jack, Ty, Susan Sexton, Kristy, Jeremy... Those are a little more complicated. It's kind of funny, going through the older stories and snips here and there, searching for the slightest mention of the details most would overlook. But Lord, we authors, if anything, are sticklers for details like that.Hmm...maybe I need to just break down and buy a binder for the series. Lord knows I need to be better organized. LOL
First look at "Conflict of Interest" 2008-04-23 10:38:00 On Saturday, my first novella length story with Torquere Press will be published. Conflict of Interest is one of my favorite stories. When Alex Hitchner signs up to volunteer at a local youth shelter, he is not prepared to be introduced to Jamie Owens, an 18 year old boy with a bad attitude. Just two years younger than Alex, Jamie is nervy, precocious, and damn sexy, to boot. But Alex sees himself as a mentor to Jamie, someone to look up to, someone to prove to the kid that being a gay man does not mean casual sex in crowded clubs. He tries to keep his distance, both physically and emotionally, but Jamie becomes a part of his life in a way Alex doesn't expect. Alex must choose between giving into his desires or leaving the program ~ and Jamie ~ behind.EXCERPT:When Alex pulled into the parking lot of a downtown deli, Jamie jumped out of the car before it came to a complete stop and stretched languidly like an animal just released from a cage. As he climbed out of the car, Alex noticed
Pawprints - Second Nature 2008-04-11 09:13:00 Earlier this week, I had my latest release with Loose Id, Pawprints 2: Second Nature. This installment in the series gives man's other best friend a shot at the limelight in this yaoi-inspired gay romance. I really enjoy writing these books, and I hope readers have fun with them too! *hearts* But now that I've written about both cats and dogs, I'm curious what everyone's favorite pets are. Some of my friends are strict dog-people, but I say they just haven't met the right cat yet. ;) At one time or another, I've had a rabbit, cats, dogs, a bird, a mole, a crab (don't ask)...I've always loved all animals, and I don't think I can choose a fave. *g*Pawprints - Second Natureby Anne CainBlurbGabe and Hayden have been sweethearts since high school, and as college seniors, they can't keep their hands -- or mouths -- off each other. As hot as things are in the bedroom, it's their love that really keeps the fire burning in their relationship. But there's a problem that makes Gabe ne
Accomplishment 2008-04-10 22:42:00 Wow. It's amazing how light your brain feels when you've finished a lengthy project. In this case, it was the sequel to The Prince's Angel. And the Two Shall Become One came in at roughly 53k. A lot of tightening the prose, cutting scenes, editing...all before shipping it off to Torquere. But...it's done!*falls over*Now I just need to catch up on other edits, plus get a few things written.*sighs*The work is never done. ;)
Round Robin: Part XII 2008-04-07 02:41:00 Once again, it's my turn to add to the round robin. I hope you all are enjoying the story so far. Please forgive any boo-boos, as it's late here and I'm in the middle of a not so fun nicotine fit. Quitting smoking is the pits.*Sam stared into Blake’s fathomless eyes and prayed it was his lover running the larger man’s body and not the thing—Gregory—that had been in control earlier. Poor Greg had never been the sharpest crayon, but Sam’s guilt-ridden decision to transform his then lover had only made things infinitely worse. He should have killed Gregory when he had the chance, instead of letting him live, and go on to become the ghoul he was today.None of that mattered now though. What concerned Sam was whether or not he could discreetly find out who he was dealing with, without informing the staff of what they were dealing with. He had too much on his hands to spend the night in a straight jacket, and that was what would surely happen if he started spouting nonsense about
Round Robin Part XI 2008-04-06 21:28:00 Wow, this story is amazing! I'm not sure I can measure up, but I shall do my best. This is coming right off the top of my head, and it's going to be really, really short, so do keep that in mind O_OLast part here.----------Samuel pounded down the hall, cursing under his breath. Leaving Blake -- no, Gregory; God this was confusing -- alone was a bad idea. But Ken wasn't truly Ken anymore. Samuel had no idea what the boy might do, and Cecilia didn't deserve to suffer for something she had no part in.He heard Ken's growls and Cecilia's panic-shrill voice before he got to the room. He skidded around the corner just in time to see Ken's big hand close over Cecilia's slender throat. "Ken, no!" Samuel launched himself across the room, grabbed Ken's arm and wrenched it upward. Ken's hand clipped Cecilia's chin, sending her sprawling to the floor. She scrambled to her feet and backed out of reach. "God, what's wrong with him?" Samuel almost smiled at the way Cecilia's voice quavere
The inevitable approaches... 2008-04-04 10:37:00 Tax Day. ARGH. People have been giving Caesar his due since, um, the age of Caesar. (Oh yeah, I'm great with words today...*snort*) April 15th is coming fast for those of us in the US, and there's no better reward for getting through the chore than some good books! Aside from the enormous virtual-stack of ebooks I have in my TBR pile, I'm looking forward to curling up with these print books over the weekend if I can squirrel away some free time. And yes...they're all chock-full of m/m goodness! :DYakuza In Love (manga) - Shiuko Kano has yet to dissappoint with her sexy stories and expressive artwork. Best Gay Romance 2008 (anthology) - I cheated and read a couple of the short stories instead of waiting for the weekend. There's one called "Endless Against Amber" by a young Australian author that's bittersweet, romantic, a little sad, and great all-around.The Back Passage (novel) - I've had this one a while, and the Agatha Christie-style mystery set-up didn't grip me...at first.
Round Robin Part X 2008-04-03 21:09:00 Sorry a little quick and dirty here today. Last part hereA sea of sweet tasting death moved about Absolon as he leaned against an antiseptic wall. So impersonal now, these passings of men. No old women to wash the dead. No families holding their beloved’s hand as they sloughed off the world. Death surrounded by machines and strangers. So much better. His wary, hard eyes tracked the man who burst from one room almost taking a nurse to the floor as he careened around the corner. Such haste. Such fear. All over two mortals. How droll. How sweet. How wonderful. Waves of the doctor’s panic rolled over him. For a creature a century and a half old, Samuel wore his humanity like an unneeded but favored garment. Like a fine wine, age refined and developed his flavor. A pain that could be cultivated, savored for ages.A cough at Absolon’s shoulder barely registered. Gregory’s voice, far more intrusive and irritating, did. “I did as you bid.”Absolon barely turned his head. “I know.
Round Robin IX 2008-04-02 17:38:00 Does IDK stand for anything in Roman numerals? Last part here*closes eyes and jumps in*Samuel ran a hand through Blake’s hair, the dark strands still stiff with dried blood. Each touch brought the acrid scent to his nostrils, a smell like dawn. Like danger. Like the danger facing two of Samuel’s mortals. Even though playing with Ken had never engaged Samuel’s quiescent heart, the boy had earned Samuel’s protection. Besides, he hated sharing his toys. Since being in two places at once wasn’t one of the advantages of his immortal existence, he’d have to use the advantages of his mortal persona if he were to keep them both safe. Sometimes being the head of trauma care was more useful than all his preternatural powers. He punched the call button and told Cecilia to have Ken moved down to this room. As she agreed, a familiar voice rose behind him. “Parasite. Carrion-eater.”Blake’s voice. Blake’s body sitting upright on the gurney, but not Blake. All the extra drug had do
Round Robin Part VIII 2008-04-01 12:47:00 Part VII is here, in case you've not seen it yet. It's been a while since I played with vampires. I hope I remember how.The eyes were Blake's, but the person behind them wasn't the man Samuel knew. They held a flatness, a coldness that didn't belong to his ex-lover. He recognized it and cursed its demonic origins. As swiftly as he identified it, it was gone. The vestige vanished and a flash of clarity lit the green depths as Blake's gaze focused on him. "Samuel?""Shh." He put a gentle hand on Blake's shoulder, prepared to shift to force to hold him down should the apparition appear within him again. Samuel had a good idea what the momentary trace had been and only hoped Blake's preternaturally strong immune system was defense against more than physical injury. "You need to rest.""No. No time." Blake shook his head against the pillow, mussing his already disheveled hair."It's all right." Samuel held him by both shoulders now, trying to still him, not wanting him to d
Round Robin Part VII 2008-03-31 14:31:00 This isn't much, but I've had a fever most of the morning, waiting for the medication for my sinus/ear infection to take effect *sigh* Gotta say that the cough syrup is good ;)Last part HEREThe security guard posted at the door was still there. The man looked bored. Sam couldn’t blame him, it was late. Still, Sam felt as if something was off.“Has my patient had any visitors?” he asked, hand on the door.“No, Dr. Wexford. It’s been quiet. Who is the man? I mean, are you expecting trouble?”Sam gave a sigh. “I hope not. Just keep an eye out.”“Yes, sir.”Sam pushed open the door and walked in. All seemed quiet, just as the guard said. Too quiet. He slowly approached Blake’s bedside. He smelt nothing, heard nothing, but there was a tingle in the air. That elder vampire had been here since he last left Blake. Not good.Reaching out, he touched Blake’s forehead. “What does he want from you? Why were you looking for me?”Blake’s eyes snapped open causing Sam to gasp
Round Robin IV 2008-03-30 09:36:00 My turn! Check out the last part HERE.The blood went down like water and Sam could feel it spreading out through his long-dead veins and arteries. It brought strength and courage along with it, just like it always had. Sam drained the bag and deposited it at the very bottom of one of the hospital’s waste receptacles, making sure there was plenty of other garbage on top. He washed up, taking care to scrub well, and ran his hands through his hair. His shaking had stopped and a mellow calmness stole over him. Now, he could deal.Back out in the hallway, he scanned the immediate area and didn’t see anything out of place. He had no idea where the nurse would have taken Ken, so Sam began systematically searching the empty patient rooms before heading back to the busy emergency room. The last private room on the left was not empty. Ken still lay on the gurney and the young nurse hovered over him, glancing worriedly at the monitor that she’d hooked Ken up to. When Sam entered the room, she
